To flee or to stay is the heartbreak faced by the first refugees to arrive in France. Solidarity is set up, reception, but also the sending of food and medicine.
In Annecy (Haute-Savoie)boxes of donations are present by the hundred, 73 tons of relief and hygiene equipment. Everywhere in France, solidarity is organized to exceed the expectations of volunteers. “Usually when we do collections for any other event, it’s not as followed. I have never experienced such a thing“, says one of them. Some donations have already arrived in Ukraine.
A Ukrainian refugee, Olenahosted in Lyon (Rhone) with a couple, calls his parents who remained in Lviv (Ukraine). They have just received a first truck full of donations. “Hes are very happy to see all this, to be able to dress, eat, wash“, reports Olena. “You can tell them there’s still some in the garage”answers the woman who welcomes him. In another host family in Evreux (Rhone)they were pleasantly surprised to receive a box full of foodstuffs. “It shows that everyone is united because it was donated by all the traders in the village“, says Marie-France Wittlinhost family.
