“This is not just a military operation but a war that sows death, destruction and misery”, he said after the Angelus prayer calling for help to help people. “The victims are more and more numerous as are the people on the run, especially mothers and children. The need for humanitarian assistance in this martyred country grows dramatically hour by hour.”continued the Argentine pope who has repeatedly called for an end to the fighting in Ukraine.
Many Ukrainian flags were also present among the faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s Square to follow the Pope’s Angelus. “I implore that the armed attacks stop and that negotiations resume, common sense too, and that we start respecting international law again”, he added. He also thanked the journalists who “put their lives in danger” to inform the world about the events in Ukraine.
