Large French companies remain in Russia, on the other hand, one by one, the luxury groups decide to lower the curtain during the war in Ukraine. With discretion, however, through simple press releases, broadcast on social networks, because such a decision will undoubtedly not be without consequences.
Luxury boutiques in the heart of Moscow, French giants like Vuitton or Hermès, acclaimed by wealthy Russian customers, it’s over for the moment. One hundred and twenty-four boutiques lower the curtain for LVMH, Chanel 17 boutiques, Hermès 3, Kering 2. Pressed by the government to show their solidarity, French groups have resigned themselves to temporarily closing their stores.
Russia remains a small market for these luxury giants. LVMH has a worldwide turnover of 64 billion euros, of which less than 2% in Russia. But Russian customers spend a lot abroad, especially on the Côte d’Azur or in French ski resorts. The luxury giants communicate on the donations made to associations for Ukraine and refugees. The brand Balenciaga even displays a Ukrainian flag on Twitter.
