We don’t have enough of a lifetime to discover science! We might as well start with museums, which compete in ingenuity to present scientific knowledge to us in an accessible form. Overview of the main permanent exhibitions.
The Planetarium
If you are even a little intrigued by astronomy, the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan is a real gateway to the universe and its stars. You can learn more about the mysteries of meteorites thanks to its collection of some 458 fragments from these celestial bodies, the largest of its kind in Quebec. Two of these pieces fallen from the sky have even been found in Quebec, in Penouille, in Gaspésie, and in Chibougamau, while two others come from the Moon and Mars. We will obviously take advantage of this visit to the Planetarium to see the new immersive shows presented recently, including The Adventures of Rosetta and Philaea film for the whole family that reveals the challenges of exploring a comet.
The Biosphere
To discover scientific exhibits dealing with unusual aspects, head to the Biosphere. In this former Expo 67 pavilion converted into an environment museum, you can discover meteorology with This is not an umbrella, which provides a better understanding of probabilities, weather warnings and atmospheric pressure, terms that we often hear without being put into context. You can also make a detour to the new Ecolab, which allows you to learn about the main principles of the scientific approach by studying a phenomenon that constantly surrounds us: pollution.
The Science Center
At the Science Center, several exhibitions and activities for the whole family provide a better understanding of scientific phenomena by taking part in educational workshops with games and crafts on the elements, geometry, computers, the human body and space. Interactive and fascinating exhibitions whose visitors are the real heroes!
The Cosmodome
Astronautics becomes a reality before our eyes by visiting the Cosmodôme de Laval, whose permanent exhibition allows you to learn more about space and the history of its exploration. This is an opportunity to learn more about satellites, rockets and the solar system, among others. Among the must-see attractions are an Apollo-era spacesuit and a real piece of moon rock.
