Five migrants arrested in Urrugne and escorted to the border

The border police (PAF) arrested a vehicle with a driver on board carrying five migrants on Saturday 5 March. An event that provoked protests from local residents, including that of the mayor Philippe Aramendi, who tried to negotiate with the police. However, no arrests have been made. Migrants will be sent back to Spain.

No judicial inquiry launched

During the arrest, several residents of Urrugne and elected officials of the town tried to negotiate with the police. Our colleagues from Kazeta.eus were there.

When contacted, the Bayonne prosecutor’s office ensures that after verification, there is no evidence that the person who was driving the car was paid for transportation. “It is therefore a humanitarian act, criminally speaking it is not reprehensible”. There is therefore no investigation launched to date.

According to the prosecution, migrants will be deported to the Franco-Spanish border in the coming hours, via the Schengen surrender procedure.
