“Women artists, 23 portraits that inspire us” by Anne Lanoé and Alice Dussutour

Christmas is the perfect opportunity to offer beautiful books to young audiences. I have selected one for you. Published by Fleurus, a publishing house that I really like, because it really does a very good job: the books are always well designed, neat, with a perfect pedagogy.

I selected “Women artists” by Anne Lanoé and Alice Dussutour. And so there, it’s a very nice idea that Fleurus editions had: to offer 23 portraits of women artists as the title indicates, and not the least.

Listen instead: Josephine Baker, George Sand, Virginia woolf, the sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle, the director Agnes Varda, Frida Kahlo (hey, let’s focus on this particular artist: child handicapped by polio, intended for medicine after brilliant studies, but who, because (or thanks we could say!) to an accident the year of his 18 years, and immobilized in a corset, will occupy herself by launching herself in the painting. Camille Claudel, sculptor of genius, pupil then mistress of the great Rodin, who will be his equal in talent and recognition, before sinking into madness.

Those 23 extraordinary women artists are told, and represented by very pretty illustrations, in this book intended for young audiences (and not just girls!) from 8 years old, shall we say! Some examples of quotes from these women that you will find at the end of the book:

  • That of Virginia Woolf for example: “The first duty of a woman who wants to write is to kill the fairy of the house in her“Radical, but fair, isn’t it?
  • The quote from Simone de Beauvoir: “I accept the great adventure of being me“. It could almost be a subject of philosophy, that.
  • Or finally, that of the writer Toni Morrisson: “If you want to read a book but it hasn’t been written yet, you have to write it“.

As you can see, this book is important. In addition, it is very beautiful! He will do the children’s happinessand parents. Quickly add it to the list of gifts you will send to Santa Claus… If Santa Claus doesn’t keep it to himself….
