The mayor of Thionville (Moselle) announces that he wants to suspend the installation of the Russian supermarket Mere in his city. After many procrastination, the hard-discounter’s lease was signed, and the work request was filed.
“I will oppose for the moment the opening of this store in Thionville”, says Pierre Cuny on France Bleu. The chosen one explains that he will oppose “to carry out these works” because of the conflict in Ukraine.
This Russian brand has no place
Pierre Cuny explains that at the time of the implementation project, several months ago, the situation was quite different: “Three or four months ago, who could have predicted that Putin was going to invade Ukraine and commit a crime against humanity?”, he explains. The mayor of the city therefore took the decision to block the project: “I don’t want to be an extremist, we’ll see how things evolve. But today, I’ll say it again, this Russian brand has no place in Thionville “.
A form of economic sanction, at the local level: “At some point, there are decisions to be made, continues the mayor of Thionville. We all have a conscience, all the same. And what is shown today on all televisions in the world – except in Russia! – is absolutely abominable. I call on everyone to revolt.”
