French civilians intend to go to Ukraine in order to protect the population as much as possible, or to treat the victims of the war.
Mathieu Dos Santos, a 34-year-old Frenchman and former soldier, is preparing to leave for Ukraine. He is in contact with a Ukrainian liaison officer whom he must meet at the Polish border. “The main goal is not to go to the front, we will never get there. It is to protect people as much as possible and to be useful for on-site assistance”he explains.
For his part, Arsène Sabanieev is an intensive care doctor of Ukrainian origin. He too decided to leave, not to fight, but to heal. “I do a little bit of emergency medicine so I want to make myself useful to everyone”says the man who tattooed the symbol of Ukraine at the age of 17.
