The new faces of That’s how I love you

Noémie Leduc-Vaudry appeared at the auditions of That’s how I love you without much hope of success in 2019. Because she is of Asian origin, the actress believed that she had no chance of landing the role of Mireille, the embittered secretary of Robert Bourassa. “I knew that with my cast, in Quebec, I was probably never going to do period stuff,” she said in an interview. I thought it was boring, but hey…”

Noémie Leduc-Vaudry nevertheless accepted the invitation of casting directors Brigitte Viau and Isabelle Thez-Axelrad with the aim of giving everything she had to give. “I was adopted by two Quebecers. My father comes from Lac-Saint-Jean. I’m from quebec ! “, she says, laughing.

The 30-year-old actress recalls the surge of emotions she felt when she learned she had been selected.

I was surprised and happy, but above all grateful. Grateful that I was given a chance. Because there were certainly not many Chinese in Sainte-Foy in the mid-1970s!

Three years later, Noémie is still struggling to believe that she appears in the credits of That’s how I love you, whose first six episodes of the exhilarating second season land on ICI Tou.tv Extra on Thursday. The 10 new episodes plunge us back into the tragicomic world of Quebec City commuters Huguette (Marilyn Castonguay), Gaétan (François Létourneau), Micheline (Karine Gonthier-Hyndman) and Serge (Patrice Robitaille), who resume their criminal activities the school year.

Noémie Leduc-Vaudry enjoys more ice time in this sequel directed by Jean-François Rivard and Robin Aubert. And other “new faces” are joining her, starting with Anne-Marie Binette and Gabriel Cloutier Tremblay. The first is Marie-Ange Doucet, a housewife who asks for Huguette’s help to emancipate herself; the second defends Stevie, a disciple of Grazia (Charlotte Le Bon), the godmother of Montreal organized crime.

In conversation Zoom group, Anne-Marie and Gabriel react to Noémie’s comments by encouraging producers to take more risks, by hiring actors who have not necessarily starred in a thousand and one series, or by celebrating diversity for all viewpoints.

“It’s important to deconstruct our cognitive biases so that there is less ageism, more body diversity, more sexual diversity. As an actor, when you audition, it’s fun to believe that you can do anything,” says Gabriel Cloutier Tremblay.

“There is so much talent in Quebec,” says Anne-Marie Binette. There are people who are just waiting for that. We just have to give them a chance. »

feeling of pride

The three actors are extremely proud to have participated in That’s how I love you. On the computer screen, their smile denotes their enthusiasm.

“I like everything, everything, everything that François Létourneau does with Jean-François Rivard, says Anne-Marie Binette. I have seen everything ! This is one of the reasons why I do this job. I loved The invincibles. This way of writing, this way of acting… It appeals to me a lot. »

I haven’t done tons of TV roles since I graduated from the Conservatory. [d’art dramatique de Montréal] in 2013. It has been a long journey to get there. But if it took this long to get this role, on this show, with this team, it would have been worth it.

Produced by Casablanca (5and rank, The survivors), the second season of That’s how I love you benefited from a budget higher than the average amount granted to Quebec dramas, namely $546,000 per episode.

great lover of Black sequenceGabriel Cloutier Tremblay talks about a valuable filming experience he had last summer.

“When I came to That’s how I love you, I was really happy to feel a family spirit, like in the theater, continues the actor. I felt that everyone believed in the project. It creates better working conditions to play, to offer a quality performance. »

When you try to do your job well in an impossible timeframe, when we say we’re just doing one take and we’re going to film the rehearsals just in case, it’s not ideal. Having a knife to your throat is not pleasant.

Gabriel Cloutier Tremblay

Same story with Anne-Marie Binette, who found the adventure “refreshing”.

“It’s one of the first times I had a costume on TV and I wasn’t told, ‘You’ll bring yourself a nice pair of jeans with a clean shoe.’ It was the first time that a make-up artist asked me how I saw my character, that she had time to talk about it. I really felt the artist behind every person working on it. »

A project that matters

Although they have yet to watch the second season of That’s how I love youNoémie, Gabriel and Anne-Marie are convinced that it will meet the expectations of enthusiasts.

“This is their most successful project, believes Noémie Leduc-Vaudry. This is the one that made me laugh the most, personally. It’s a perfect mix of comedy, drama and irony. The art direction is amazing. The make-up, the costumes, the hairstyles… It’s magic. »

In love with the 1970s despite his young age (34 years old), Gabriel Cloutier Tremblay laughs that he would have been ready to pay to see his name appear in the credits of the soap opera.

“Making plans just to make plans is one thing. Because we want to make a living, we want to pay for our business, we want to survive. But doing projects that really matter, that we defend with conviction, is so precious. That’s what we do our job for. »
