The bill continues to increase at service stations. The prices of road fuels sold in France have reached new records, according to official figures published on Monday February 28, while crude oil prices have soared with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Gasoline and diesel are affected by these large increases.
The liter of diesel was worth 1.7415 euros on average over the week, according to figures from the Ministry of Ecological Transition arrested on Friday February 25. This is 3.64 cents more than the previous week. The trend is also up for Unleaded 95, which reached an average of 1.7997 euros per liter over the week. By way of comparison, the liter of fuel, petrol or diesel, was on average below 1.60 euros at the end of 2021.
Fuel prices have been rising for several weeks and regularly reach new records, in the wake of oil prices. Their surge has been fueled by the global economic recovery and still tight supply from major oil-producing countries.
This trend was exacerbated by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia on Thursday February 24: the barrel of Brent from the North Sea exceeded the 100 dollar mark on that date, for the first time since 2014. But this The impact has probably not yet been fully reflected in the pump prices published on Monday, which relate to a weekly period lasting only until the day after the start of the Russian offensive.
The rise in prices at the pump is a sensitive issue for the French government, with the approach of the presidential election and against a background of rising costs of living. Accompanying measures have already been announced for households (increase in mileage allowance, inflation allowance, etc.), while some distributors grant discounts to their customers.
