Fifth day of war in Ukraine and Russia continues its offensive in the country. This raises a lot of questions from pupils in the CM2 class of the Eustache Varet elementary school in Violaines, in the Hauts-de-France region. They put their questions to Alexis Vahlas, director of research at the National Institute of Public Service (INSP), lecturer in public law at Sciences Po Strasbourg and former political adviser to NATO and European Union operations.
Liam asks the specialist the first questions, “I was wondering why Russia wanted part of Ukraine when it is already huge?If Ukraine is smaller than Russia, can it defend itself?. Then Pauline would like to know”why does Russia want to invade Ukraine and not other countries?
Alexei takes his turn to speak, “If Russia wins, do you think it will continue to gain power? If we are concerned with war, will we support Russia or Ukraine?“. Finally, he asks:
