Russia is deprived of French skies. In a tweet, published Sunday, February 27 at midday, the Minister of Transport announced that France is in turn closing “its airspace to Russian planes and airlines from this evening”. “Faced with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the unity of Europe is total”, add JJean-Baptiste Djebbari.

France is finally following in the footsteps of other European countries. Indeed, from Germany to Sweden via Belgium, Italy, Poland or Estonia, several countries each in turn announced on Sunday the closure of their airspace to Russian planes.
Italy has asked all member states of the European Union to follow suit. Just like France, which demanded “rapid European coordination on the subject”. At Sunday’s meeting of European Union foreign ministers, “we will push for an EU-wide shutdown”declared for his part on Twitter the head of Danish diplomacy, Jeppe Kofod.

In retaliation, Moscow has begun to ban the overflight of its territory to planes linked to European countries that have announced such decisions in recent days, such as the United Kingdom, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Poland and the Czech Republic.
