The Agricultural Show will see almost all the presidential candidates parade a month and a half before the first round. The sector is suffering. France has lost 100,000 farmers in ten years. Major challenge of the Show: better remuneration for the profession, which can count on the support of many visitors.
Saturday 26 February, the aisles swarm crowd on the first day of the Agricultural Show. After a cancellation in 2021 due to the Covid-19farmers dreamed of it. Many visitors also came. The breeders are delighted to be back in front of the public again. For this 58th edition, no poultry due to flu avian but cows, sheep and pigs.
The joy of exchanging is mixed with concern this Saturday. The war in Ukraine is on everyone’s mind. For some breeders, this means costs still rising, especially wheat which represents 70% of pig feed, yesterday at 308 euros per tonne, almost a record. Negotiations on prices on the shelves between large retailers and suppliers which are due to end on Tuesday March 1 in the middle of the Agricultural Show.
