With seven Caesars, the film lost illusions, by Xavier Giannoli, is the big winner of the 47th ceremonies of this film institution. The feature film, adapted from a work by Honoré de Balzac, was awarded the César for best film. Annetteby Leos Carax, won the César for best director.
Valérie Lemercier won the César for best actress for her portrayal of Céline Dion in the true-false biopic she dedicated to the star of Quebec song, Aline. “I had a small model, and even a great model, to whom I still tell this evening all my love and my admiration, Céline of course!”said on the Olympia stage the 57-year-old actress.
Benoît Magimel, 47, won the César for best actor on Friday for his role as an end-of-life patient in “In his lifetime” by Emmanuelle Bercot. “It’s a film about a man who is doomed, but it’s above all a film about life”, he declared while receiving his prize on the stage of the Olympia. He won in particular against Hollywood actor Adam Driver, nominated for Annette in the same category for best actor.
In In his lifetime, he embodies a forty-something doomed by cancer who, after a phase of denial, bravely prepares for death. It rings true there: behind the cadaverous make-up of his character shines through a man marked by a few storms.
