The Salon de l’Agriculture will open its doors on Saturday 26 February. Russia’s military operation in Ukraine and the surge in prices have already been much commented on by breeders, who remain happy to meet in Paris.
The Agricultural Show is not yet open, but a veterinarian, met by the teams of France Televisions, is already overwhelmed. He carried out 20 interventions, on the morning of Friday 25 February alone. Private Salon in 2021, he does not hide his joy. “It’s a great pleasure. Honestly, I missed it”, he confides. Between the noise of the installations and the trolleys, the headliner of the Show, Neige, a 4-year-old Abondance cow, is getting used to the flashes.
With great care, Michel Ducasse has found the Salon he has frequented since 1965. “I had the chance and the honor to shake hands with General de Gaulle”, he confides. Today, the next generation is here: Renan, 7, came from the Pyrenees with his aunt, Sophie Deffis, and her black pigs from Bigorre. For the breeder, the conflict in Ukraine and the soaring price of cereals, however, darken the event. “It worries us, and it affects us directly”, she says. Like her, breeders in Morbihan are struggling to hide their anguish.
