The signing of Avery, 41, by the Solar Bears has been a hot topic over the past 48 hours. The 580-game National League veteran was making a comeback 10 years after retiring.

However, the team announced on Friday afternoon that the striker had been released without having played a game.

Avery spoke about it in a story posted on his Instagram account.

“God bless the Solar Bears,” he said. The guys let me skate with them for a few days. I loved every minute, but I miss my little guy Nash too much. I have to go back to California and to my boy. I go back to routine. »

Over the past few days, two former National League players, Georges Laraque and Matthew Barnaby, had expressed the desire to return to the game for a game against Avery.

“I’m going to make a wish!” Can any ECHL team sign me for at least one game against Sean Avery please… Lol,” Laraque wrote on his Twitter account.

The Florida Everblades had responded by offering to play on March 12.

“If Avery signs in Orlando, I will sign with any team in this division… You can play me as much as Torts [John Tortorella] got me playing,” Barnaby wrote.
