It was in a publication on Twitter that the collective made the announcement. “The Anonymous collective is officially in a cyber war against the Russian government,” reads the publication accompanied by the keywords “Anonymous” and “Ukraine”.
The hacker group is best known for its cyberattacks against Islamic State during the Arab Spring and, more recently, against Minneapolis police following the death of George Floyd.
Since its announcement, the collective has already carried out two attacks in Russia. The website of Russian state-funded propaganda outlet RT News was taken down on Thursday, followed by the Defense Ministry website on Friday.
