This new international deal could have an impact on the French presidential campaign. All the candidates have already reacted and all condemn the Russian attack outright.
It’s a presidential campaign turned upside down by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Barely arrived on Reunion Island, Jean-Luc Mélenchon condemns Vladimir Poutine. On the left, the other candidates are demanding action to end the conflict. “Our firmness and our solidarity must immediately translate into sanctions of an exceptional magnitude against Putin and his accomplices.”says Yannick Jadotcandidate (ecological pole) in the presidential election.
On the right, Valérie Pécresse wants a European response. “This attack must be the occasion of an electric shock for Europe“, says the candidate Les Républicains. Marine Le Pen, who has already been received at the Kremlin, asks for an end to military operations. Éric Zemmour, his far-right rival, is following in his footsteps. Under the Fifth Republic, there had never been a conflict triggered during a presidential campaign. ATith this war, the candidates will have to adapt.
