Russian ground forces entered Ukrainian territory from Russia and Belarus on Thursday morning, said Ukrainian border guards who reported the first death in their ranks since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine .
“Russian military vehicles, including armored vehicles, violated the border in the regions of Chernigiv (north, Belarusian border), Sumy (northeast, Russian border), Lugansk and Kharkiv (east, Russian border)”, according to the statement from the border guards.
He adds that “most border guard units were targeted by fire in these same regions”.
A video from border guards shows military vehicles marked with the letter “Z” passing through a crossing point said to be between the annexed Crimean peninsula and mainland Ukraine.
“Following rocket fire (…) from the territory of occupied Crimea, a border guard was killed,” they said.
