About 1,200 people took part in the white march organized in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque (Pyrénées-Orientales) on Sunday in tribute to the victims of the fire which devastated three buildings in this town near Perpignan and kills 8, reports France Bleu Roussillon.
“We don’t yet realize what happened in our town. It’s a disaster, we have to mourn”reacted Alain Got, the mayor of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque present on the spot. “I think some people expect that from the white march, to be able to speak up and say ‘we participated’ and realize what happened.”
He expresses “powerlessness” residents about what happened. He is awaiting the outcome of the ongoing investigation, but “People are asking questions about the fire, is it criminal, is it not criminal, is it accidental? We will have to have the answers”. He points out that there is “people’s discomfort” in the city. “We don’t understand why there was this explosion in the middle of the night.”
