Forgetting the time of a few hours, the reality of the health crisis of our present, a few 75,000 people escaped into the corridors of time during the “Utopiales” in Nantes during this long weekend of All Saints. The science fiction festival marked his return to the city of congresses, after a blank year in 2020 because of the covid. Of course, the 2018 records – 100,000 visitors – were not reached, but this 2021 vintage, marked by the pandemic (health pass and wearing of the mask required) can satisfy the organizers who had put the small dishes in the big ones: More 150 literary, artistic and scientific round tables, nearly 70 cinema screenings, eight exhibitions, eight conferences translated into sign language, as well as Asian, entertainment and video games poles, as well as “the world’s largest science fiction bookstore” if we believe the official press release.
The Goldorak phenomenon
Among the highlights, the preview of Beautiful of Mamoru Hosoda, a dive into the world of the cult series ofAlex alice (who was present) The Castle of the Stars or two conferences and an exhibition dedicated to the hero of a whole generation: Goldorak. The famous giant robot which made the heyday of “Récré A2” and “Club Dorothée” in the 80s and 90s.
Back to comics, with a final episode created by five French authors (who were present in Nantes) Denis Bajram, Xavier Dorison, Brice Cossu, Yoann Guillo and Alexis Sentenac, Grendizer, also celebrated in Paris in October (exhibition, concert, collector’s stamp) was one of the guests of these Utopiales.
