Since Saturday February 19, France has asked its nationals to leave Ukraine. Most have, but there are still some irreducible who refuse to leave, too attached to the country. Their life is there, they say. This is the case of a retiree, originally from Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais)he prepares for all eventualities.

It floats at Teterivkaa small village of 2,000 inhabitants right in heart of agricultural Ukraine, a scent of the past. We have an appointment with a Frenchman. Jakie Lebas is welcoming, easy to talk to, he is very happy to show us the place where he has chosen to live. Former cinema director in Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais)he decided three years ago to retire in Ukraine, for the sweetness of life and his love at first sight for his country.

“How could I leave this country cowardly, because there is currently a danger”says the Frenchman, who thinks that a war is “inevitable”. “I feel like Putin has gone so far that he can’t go back now. We are on a kind of chessboard where the lives of civilians will not count”he says. Elena, his wife, does not give in to panic, and thinks that the war will not affect them. Calm, but cautious. They thought of supplementing the reserves in the cellar, which can also be used as a bomb shelter.
