International travel is slowly picking up in Canada. The number of entries by air is now one-third of the pre-pandemic level, according to the latest data from Statistics Canada.
The number of entries into the country has increased since the release of screening measures at Canadian airports on August 9. This openness of Canada particularly pleased foreign nationals eager to see their families.
Some 42,000 of them flew in the week before August 9, up from 95,000 a month later.
The government has also issued 10,806 tickets for non-compliance with quarantine rules since the start of the pandemic.
The volume of travelers to Canada remains very far from its pre-pandemic records, if we include land travel. Since the start of this year, 12.5 million people have crossed Canada’s borders, compared to just under 100 million in 2019.
The picture will change soon, as the United States will reopen its land borders on November 8 to all those vaccinated.
