The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Four snowmobiles followed each other on the trail near Chemin Haut du Lac Nord, a few kilometers from the center of Saint-Tite, in Mauricie. The group came from Pincourt, in Montérégie.
In a curve, one of the snowmobiles lost control and hit a fence. The 41-year-old driver unfortunately died in the accident. His passenger, a woman in her thirties, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Resuscitation maneuvers were employed without success by the firefighters who transported the victims to the hospital.
Snowmobile trail 23 is closed for the time of the investigation, led by a patroller trained in collision investigation. Alcohol did not play a role in the accident, according to preliminary information from Stéphane Tremblay, from the communications department of the Sûreté du Québec.
