(Ottawa) Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly is cutting short her trip to Europe to devote herself entirely to the growing tensions in Ukraine.

If Canada’s chief diplomat has decided to cancel part of her trip abroad because of “rising tensions in Ukraine”, and this forces her to continue “relentlessly [la] quest for a diplomatic solution”, one can read on his Twitter account.
She adds that Russia still has time to “choose the path of de-escalation and dialogue”.
Minister Joly is currently on board the plane that will bring her back to Canada. She was to return next Tuesday, according to the initial program.
By returning prematurely, she therefore gave up on a forum sponsored by the European Union (EU) on cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. This portion of the trip was therefore less related to the current crisis, indicated its director of communications, Maéva Proteau.
The Minister returns despite everything with regret, since the invitation launched by the EU to take part in discussions on a geopolitical issue of such importance had been well received by the Canadian government, added Ms.me Proteau.
