Quebec deplores 12 deaths linked to COVID-19

The situation continues to improve in Quebec hospitals, even if the number of deaths linked to COVID-19 has doubled compared to the previous day.

According to data published by the Ministry of Health on Sunday, the number of patients in hospitals due to the coronavirus rose from 1,789 to 1,758. There are 120 people in intensive care, eleven more than the day before.

Twelve new deaths were added to the death toll, double from the previous day. We now deplore 13,853 deaths linked to COVID-19 since its appearance in Quebec.

The Ministry of Health also reports 1,197 new cases since the previous assessment. Authorities have recorded 911,399 cases of infection since the start of the pandemic. However, the number of cases listed is not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority clienteles.

The average of new cases for the past seven days stands at 1,794, a drop of more than 29% from last Sunday.

The number of active outbreaks decreased from 902 to 888.

A total of 17,155 analyzes were performed on Saturday. The positivity rate tumbled 1.4 percentage points to 7.8%.

No less than 18,810 doses of vaccine have been administered in the past 24 hours, including only 338 first doses to children aged 5 to 11 and 14,508 booster doses.

The percentage of people aged 5 and over who received a first dose is still around 91%. It is also reported that approximately 86% of the Quebec population received a second dose and that approximately 50% received a booster dose.
