Isabelle Weidemann, Canada’s flag bearer for the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games

Long track speed skater Isabelle Weidemann will be Canada’s flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics on Sunday.

The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) made the announcement in a press release on Sunday morning.

“It is such an honor to carry the Canadian flag at the Closing Ceremonies. It’s a crazy conclusion to a truly extraordinary week. I’m so proud to be a member of this team,” she said.

Weidemann collected three of Canada’s 25 medals at those games, including one of each color.

She first won Canada’s first medal at the Beijing Olympics, bronze in the 3,000 meter event.

Next, Weidemann won the silver medal in the 5,000 meters in long track speed skating.

The 26-year-old Ottawan crowned her Games with a gold medal won in the women’s team pursuit event with her teammates Valérie Maltais and Ivanie Blondin.

Weidemann, who took part in his second Olympic Games, had competed in the same three events at the Pyeongchang Games in 2018, but only finished 4th in the team pursuit.

During the opening ceremony, short track speed skater Charles Hamelin and hockey player Marie-Philip Poulin were Canada’s flag bearers.

Short track skater Kim Boutin was Canada’s flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the Pyeongchang Games.
