Europeans are autonomous in the geolocation sector thanks to the Galileo program, operational since 2016.
Since 2016, the European GPS Galileo has been operational. More recent than its American rival, it would also be more efficient. “The Galileo signal is more precise, it is even about three times more precise. Galileo works in combination with GPS, so the combined use of the two allows more satellites to be seen and also improves accuracy“, Explain Jean-Marc Piéplu, head of the GNSS program (satellite navigation systems) to the European Union Agency for the Space Programme.
Twenty-eight satellites are already in orbit around the Earth and six more will soon be launched. The European Union is at the origin of this project, which it finances in full. It has thus disbursed 13 billion euros to ensure the sovereignty of the continent. Galileo not only helps you avoid getting lost on the road: it is also a valuable aid in the fields of rail, air and even precision agriculture.
