SHE, Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà | The duty

To mark the 25and anniversary of the La Pietà ensemble, Angèle Dubeau presents SHE, “an album entirely designed, played and composed by women” – with the exception of François Vallières, who signs with the violinist the majority of the arrangements or orchestrations of the works offered here. A repertoire entirely composed by contemporaries, widely separated between music for cinema (signed Dalal, Rebecca Dale, Jocelyn Pook, the pioneer Rachel Portman) very accessible and more complex works by Katia Makdissi-Warren (Memorycombining throat singing with contemporary music), Caroline Shaw (the brief and breathless Plan & Elevation: IV. The Orangery), Julie Thériault (splendid Transmutationwith Amélie Fortin’s latent piano) and contemporary opera specialist Ana Sokolovic (playful Girandole of Imaginary Dances “Dance noh 3″). By thus favoring recent works, Dubeau and La Pietà continue their work of initiation into contemporary music without frightening the public who have known it with the classical repertoire.
