As since the beginning of the week, the 13 Hours takes you to discover the Cévennes. Today, we find Régis, the park warden who is worried about the winter being too mild this year and the consequences it can have on animals and plants.
Exploring steep trails, Régis has made it his job. For 14 years, he has been one of the guardians of the Cévennes National Park. “Birdsong is not easy, but I can now hear and identify the most common ones”, he says. This nature specialist is on the lookout. Exceptionally, there is no snow this year.
Every day, Rémi, a meteorologist, scans the sky and his computers to predict the next day’s weather. For years, the temperature has been steadily rising. “Since 1990, there are more symbols of hot than cold”, he says. To carry out his work, he also relies on century-old archives dating from the 19th century. Everything was recorded by hand. With global warming, some animals have changed their behavior or habitat. Régis, the park warden, installs a system to photograph and study the animals.
