The needs will continue to be glaring in the streets of Montreal this spring, said Mayor Valérie Plante at a press conference at City Hall.

Funding for these facilities depends on the Quebec government. Currently, the number of open shelters varies according to a seasonal cycle. The Plante administration would like to put an end to this logic, which provides for the closure of hundreds of places by March 31, 2022.

“Help us get people who are on the street right now, we get them off the street. And we reintegrate him into society, ”said Valérie Plante. “We have to do better. »

It also calls for the maintenance of shuttles between refuges and heat stops.

The Plante administration intends to propose to the Montreal City Council to position itself on the issue next week.

“Far too many people live in a situation of great human distress and precariousness, with very difficult living conditions”, indicates the motion which will be proposed.
