These 4,200 office workers, members of 10 local branches of the Unifor union in Quebec and Ontario, filed their demands on Tuesday. Formal negotiations should therefore begin in the coming days.

The phenomenon of job relocation and the use of subcontractors is at the heart of union demands, said Unifor Quebec director Renaud Gagné in an interview with The Canadian Press on Thursday. In Quebec, Unifor is affiliated with the FTQ.

The question of wages is also important, in a context of marked inflation and significant profits of telecommunications companies, underlined Mr. Gagné.

Unifor also wants to better regulate teleworking and improve the clauses on mental health and stress at work.

Asked for comment, Bell management had yet to comment, as of this writing.
