a solidarity car garage calls for car donations in Échirolles

France bleu Isère: Hello Guy Labrunie, you are the treasurer of the Solidarauto 38 association. What is your difference compared to traditional car garages?

Guy Labrunie: We are an associative garage. That’s the first difference. And above all, our mission is to promote the mobility of people in difficulty to facilitate their social and professional integration. Therefore, we practice traditional garage activities, ie the mechanical workshop, the sale of used cars with professional workers, with professional mechanics. On the other hand, we practice this profession primarily for our beneficiaries, who are people whose family quotient is less than 1,000 euros within the meaning of the Family Allowance Fund. These people benefit from services at far lower rates than the market price, particularly in terms of labour. This is what sets us apart from traditional garages. We manage to do this job like that because we benefit from gestures of solidarity. Anyone can, on the one hand, come and have their car serviced at the workshop at a normal commercial rate, which allows us to promote a balanced operation, and on the other hand, they can come and bring their car in Don. As with any association, the donation gives rise to a tax certificate.

France bleu Isère: Are there criteria for donating a car?

Absolutely no criteria. Anyone can donate their car. Everyone is welcome, as long as the car is running and not in too bad condition, we are very happy to take delivery of the cars. Currently, we really have a major need to renew our fleet and it is very important that we can benefit from car donations that are reconditioned and put back into circulation with our beneficiaries. It’s also recycling! In particular with people who come to buy cars from us, we train them to teach them how to maintain their car so that it costs them as little as possible. We point to very specific elements in a car that must be carefully monitored and maintained. And we show that by doing correct preventive maintenance, it costs much less than if, afterwards, you have to go and repair the cars. And in addition, from the point of view of security, it is much better. The brakes better work.
