The drama drunken birds garners six nominations for the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards, awards presented each year by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.

Notably a finalist in the “best film”, “best artistic direction” and “best images” categories, Ivan Grbovic’s feature film is the most cited Quebec film among the nominations announced on Tuesday. Its performers are also acclaimed; Claude Legault is nominated for the prize for male interpretation in a supporting role while Marine Johnson is in the running for the same award on the female side.
drunken birds is however absent from the list of finalists for the best direction, where Quebec is represented by Philippe Grégoire with the comedy Engine noise.
Quebec production Twelfth night is also competing for the prize for best film. are also in the running Wildhood (Bretten Hannam), Scarboroughdirected by the tandem Shasha Nakhai-Rich Williamson and Night Raiderssigned by Cree-Métis director Danis Goulet.
These last two feature films dominate Tuesday’s announcements with 11 nominations each. All My Puny Sorrowsby Michael McGowan, follows with 8 quotes, then appear Wildhood and drunken birds with 6 occurrences.
Quebec is otherwise represented by David La Haye for his supporting role in confessions, a film by Luc Picard quoted on three occasions. The fantastic tale The time grabber (Francis Leclerc) and period drama Maria Chapdeleine (Sébastien Pilote) are also doing well, with five and four nominations respectively.
In the field of television, where only English-language productions are rewarded, comedy Sort Of starts with a head start; 13 trophies are within reach. We must also highlight the presence of Quebec actresses Laurence Lebœuf (best actress) and Ayisha Issa (best actress in a supporting role) for their performance in the series Transplant.
The winners will be announced during Canada Screen Week, April 4-10, when the Canadian Screen Awards will air on CBC.
