Already 10 years since Whitney Houston died. The late singer has nevertheless retained her millions of fans and remains a source of fascination. The question of his fortune is one of the most recurrent: to whom did it return, after the death of his only heiress, Bobbi Kristina?
In 35 years of career, Whitney Houston would have pocketed the sum of 250 million dollars, a little more than 220 million euros. His fortune was however estimated at “only” 20 million dollars (nearly 18 million euros) at his death on February 11, 2012. The icon found dead drowned in the bathtub of his hotel room at the beverly hiltonin Beverly Hills, had bequeathed them to his only daughter, Bobbi Kristina, born of her tumultuous marriage to the singer Bobby Brown. The girl was then 18 years old.
Bobbi Kristina, who died before she got her mom’s money.
Thus, Whitney Houston’s will had been respected. The singer had written it in 1993 and then modified it in April 2000. She wanted 10% of her fortune to be donated to Bobbi Kristina, and the rest placed in a trust fund until the teenager reached her majority (from 21 years in the United States). Whitney Houston then ensured that Bobbi received a sixth of the inheritance when she turned 25, then the rest when she turned 30. Bobbi Kristina unfortunately never blew out her candles. She died of a drug overdose at the age of 22 on July 26, 2015, after being found unconscious (by then-husband Nick Gordon) in a hotel room bathtub, as her mom, then rushed to the hospital. Bobbi had spent six months in a coma before being pronounced dead.
After the death of Bobbi Kristina, which her father Bobby Brown still attributes to Nick Gordon (he also died of a heroin overdose in January 2020), Whitney Houston’s fortune went to her mother, Cissy Houston. Cissy received 90% of the 20 million dollars that Whitney had bequeathed to her daughter, or nearly 18 million euros. She shared them with her sons, Whitney Houston’s half-brothers Gary Garland and Michael (now 64 and 60).
Cissy Houston had also been named executor of her daughter Whitney’s will, a role she renounced. Marion Houston, wife of Gary Garland, sister-in-law and manager of the hit singer I Will Always Love Youis now its sole director.
