More and more brands have decided to get involved in protecting the planet … and offering responsible consumers “green” products. Today it is the turn of the UGG brand to unveil its commitment with a collection that greatly minimizes waste. For fall / winter 2021, the brand has developed two innovations that transform recovered wool waste into new materials. With wool being the brand’s most iconic and widely used fiber, UGG’s mission is to make it more sustainable through UGGplush ™ and UGGcycle ™ innovations. Results ? Softer materials for consumers and for the planet.
The commitments of the Icon Impact collection
The new collection includes three iconic models namely the Fluff Sugar Cross Slide, the Fuzz Sugar Slide and the Classic Sugar Ultra Mini. By integrating renewable sugar cane contained in the SugarSole ™ foam, the brand’s signature, UGG reduces its dependence on fossil fuels by replacing ethylene from petroleum. This culture absorbs 1.6 pounds of CO2 for every pound of ethylene replaced.
By using and recycled polyethylene terephthalate, more than 350,000 bottles do not go to landfills, the equivalent of two to three bottles per pair of shoes. Finally, it also relies on recovered wool which requires less water, energy and carbon emissions compared to virgin wool. “Reclaimed” means the brand is giving new life and purpose to a material that might otherwise be thrown away and polluting – in doing so, UGG has saved 134 million MJ of energy, 11.9 billion gallons of water and 134 million pounds of CO2 compared to market virgin wool.
