The song “Hi Lovers”, by Joe Dassin, capsized hearts. The day after Valentine’s Day, the France Télévisons teams tell the story. The lyrics are inspired by a true story.
50 years ago, Joe Dassin sang one of his greatest hits: “Hello Lovers”. A romantic love song, which still capsizes the hearts of the French today. In 1972, Claude Lemesle, author of “Salut les amours”, was still a young lyricist. He writes for Joe Dassin the lyrics of the future tube in a school notebook. If he also worked for Serge Reggiani, Michel Fugain, or even Nana Mouskouri, “Salut les amours” is very personal for Claude Lemesle.
In the spring of 1972, he accompanied Valentine, his wife, who left him. “We knew we were leaving each other forever, and at that moment, there was a lady who was on the sidewalk, at our level, and who said to us (…): ‘Hi lovers!'”, he says. The author’s talent was to transform this separation into a melancholic song. “Hello Lovers” was Joe Dassin’s favorite song. If love stories make pretty melodies, breakup stories can also make pretty songs.
