The trial of former Interior Minister Claude Guéant for “fraud” of campaign expenses, which was to begin on Tuesday, has been postponed to October 11, 2022 for medical reasons, franceinfo learned from his lawyer Philippe Bouchez El Ghozi. The trial dismissal hearing took place in the morning at the request of the lawyer, while, according to him, the former minister will have to benefit from a month of convalescence.

Claude Guéant, 77, was rushed to hospital on Monday for surgery. He had just been released from prison, after nearly two months in pre-trial detention at the Paris Health prison. His lawyer then explained that “Claude Guéant contracted, during this two-month detention, several severe additional pathologies”.

The former minister of Nicolas Sarkozy was to be tried from Tuesday in Nanterre for “fraud” and “illegal financing” for the reimbursement of the expenses of his legislative campaign of 2012, after the distribution of a leaflet in his favor by the mayor UMP (which has since become LR) from Boulogne-Billancourt.
