The emergency services do not yet give an assessment, but fear a tragedy. a A skyscraper under construction collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, 15 million people, on Monday (November 1). Research is underway to find possible victims or buried survivors.
“This is a 25-story building still under construction. Many workers are trapped under the rubble. We are trying to rescue them.”said Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, an official with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency. “We cannot say at the moment how many people have died. The rescue operation is underway.”
According to residents and workers present on the site, interviewed by AFP journalists, dozens of people could have been inside. Workers and neighbors were trying to pull them out of the rubble shortly after the collapse, the cause of which remains unknown.
