A solution to the Eastern REM

Following the relevant notices this week from the ARTM and the STM, one wonders if the REM de l’Est will see the light of day. Why not replace the REM de l’Est with the extension of the green line of the Montreal metro by 9.1 km and five stations to the Pointe-aux-Trembles station? In addition, the last station of the blue line to the East could be, instead of the planned Anjou station, the Versailles station equipped with a correspondence with the green line. As for the question of the expected drop in ridership for the Mascouche train, it could be resolved by replacing the train with a high-frequency bus service between Mascouche and the future Pointe-aux-Trembles metro station, in using the current train route as a reserved track for a good part of the route. It would be a cost-effective way to improve public transit for residents of Mascouche and Repentigny.
