The number of hospitalizations linked to COVID-19 has increased slightly in Quebec, where new relaxations of health measures came into effect on Monday. Ontario, for its part, announced a new wave of easing.

Quebec thus reported 14 more hospitalizations than the day before in its report on Monday, for a total of 2,095 people occupying a hospital bed. The number of people in intensive care remained stable (136, -4) while 17 more Quebecers lost their lives due to the virus.

Nearly 1,431 cases of COVID-19 have also been reported among people with access to screening centers.

According to the latest Public Health data, 80,807 rapid tests have been self-reported since the government platform was set up on January 25. Of those tests, 62,787 came back positive, including 428 during the day on Sunday.

Remember that as of Monday, several relaxations of health measures came into effect. Gyms, indoor golf facilities and climbing centers will be able to welcome customers again, with a capacity limited to 50%. Spas are also allowed to reopen under the same conditions. The limit of people for outdoor shows is increased from 1000 to 5000 spectators.

Restrictions will also be gradually lifted on the Ontario side. Indeed, Premier Doug Ford announced Monday that as of February 17, gatherings of 25 people in private residences and 100 people at sporting or artistic events will again be permitted.

As of March 1, the vaccination passport will be lifted and there will no longer be any restrictions on the number of people gathered. The wearing of the mask inside will however be maintained.

Canada’s most populous province reported a further drop in hospitalizations on Monday (1,369, -171), as did the number of people in intensive care (394, -8)

Ontario added eight deaths to its toll, as 1,765 new cases of COVID-19 were reported among people who have access to PCR testing.
