Tested Mysa 2nd Generation Thermostat | Nice and warm

Almost half the size with a few thoughtful additions, the second-generation Mysa smart thermostat is also a beautiful object to hang on the wall. However, you have to be prepared to pay a little more and have a minimal display of information.

Whether it’s the first or the all-new second generation, the Mysa Thermostat always turns guests’ heads. This smart electric baseboard thermostat, designed by a small company in Newfoundland, is gorgeous, made all of smooth white plastic. On the front are displayed two numbers and two chevrons, to show or adjust the set temperature or that of the room, thanks to white diodes under the screen.

No risk of getting lost in complicated sub-menus: you want to increase or reduce the temperature, you tap the bottom or top chevron. The desired temperature is briefly displayed, followed by the recorded room temperature.

First novelty, the Mysa is now 40% smaller. We cut 14 mm in height, 9 mm in width and 8 mm in thickness. When you tap one of the rafters, you now hear a very noticeable “click” with each tap.

The other novelty is more subtle. It now has two small, clearly visible sensors that make it more responsive: the brightness of the screen will, for example, automatically decrease when the room is poorly lit, and the Mysa thermostat will light up at 100% when it detects a nearby presence. .

On the software side, the Mysa is compatible with all voice assistants. Yes, yes, even Siri and Apple’s often capricious HomeKit protocol. We can therefore ask one of these three artificial intelligences what the recorded temperature is or what the humidity level is, and change the desired temperature with a voice command.

The configuration is done via the Internet, the Mysa connecting directly to the WiFi network without the need for a gateway.

For more complexity, the Mysa mobile app allows you to set temperatures, get an overview of humidity levels, create a schedule or see usage statistics. This is where you can also lock the thermostat screen to prevent a child from poking around, adjust the minimum and maximum setpoint temperatures or activate geolocation.

If you agree to share your phone’s location with Mysa, the thermostat can, for example, lower the temperature when you leave the house and increase it when you approach it from a certain distance that you choose. Multiple phones can be selected for this feature.

The software aspect of this thermostat is impeccable, right from the initial configuration, which went off without a hitch. In two months of testing, the thermostat never disconnected from the internet or revealed a bug.

As for the technical specifics, the Mysa 2.0 can power up to 3800 watts and control three types of devices: baseboard, forced air or radiant heating ceiling. It is not compatible with low voltage systems.

Finally, every month, you receive an e-mail with a precise report, per day and for the whole month, of your consumption compared to the outside temperature, in kWh and in dollars.

We love less

At $149, the Mysa 2.0 is a bit more expensive than many competitors who offer this kind of WiFi thermostat without a gateway. If you want to install several thermostats, then it may be more advantageous to buy a more expensive starter model with a gateway, as offered by the Quebec companies Sinopé and Stelpro in particular: the auxiliary smart thermostats are then much more affordable. Note, however, that Mysa also offers a volume discount: at five units, the price drops to $129.

We can appreciate the sobriety of the display of the Mysa, which makes it undeniably elegant. Or you may prefer more “talkative” thermostats, on which you can read the outside temperature, the humidity level and the time.

One buys ?

Reliable, beautiful and much improved: the Mysa 2.0 is clearly a purchase to be recommended. Our only reservation is that the company has diversified its products very little – all aimed at heating or air conditioning appliances. If you want a complete home automation system, with sockets and bulbs, you won’t be able to control it with your Mysa app alone.
