It’s already over for the “president”. Former Blues coach (2010-2012) and PSG coach (2013-2016), Laurent Blanc, who arrived in Qatar in December 2020, is no longer the coach of Al-Rayyan. The Qatari club announced it on Sunday February 13.
The Chilean Nicolas Cordova will replace the current ninth in the local championship (out of twelve teams). The club has in its ranks the French world champion Steven Nzonzi, the Colombian James Rodriguez or the Algerian Yacine Brahimi.
The sporting results have not been up to the recruitment of foreign stars. Fans of this popular team in the wealthy Gulf emirate were demanding the 56-year-old coach’s resignation.

The one who started on the bench of Bordeaux (2007-2010) therefore failed to relaunch in Qatar a career at a standstill since his departure in 2016 from PSG. Elimination in the quarter-finals of the Champions League had cost him his job, despite a hat-trick at the national level of the Parisian club (championship, Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue). Al-Rayyan was Laurent Blanc’s first experience abroad. A failed first.
