Two phone calls but no easing of tensions. US President Joe Biden has warned his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin of “severe and rapid repercussions” that Moscow would suffer in the event of an attack by Ukraine, during a telephone call lasting just over an hour between the two leaders, Saturday February 12, announced the White House.

“The hysteria has reached its peak”then commented the diplomatic adviser to Vladimir Putin, Yuri Ushakov, while specifying that the two presidents had agreed “to continue contacts at all levels”.

French President Emmanuel Macron warned Vladimir Putin that a “sincere dialogue was not compatible with an escalation” military on the Ukrainian border, announced the Elysee after a telephone conversation of more than an hour and a half between the two heads of state, shortly before the exchange with the American president. The French president also “transmits the concerns of its European partners and allies”.

For his part, therussian President Vladimir Putin has called “provocative speculations” charges against Russia over an imminent invasion of Ukraine, according to a statement from the Kremlin. The United States said on Friday that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could take place “at any time”.
