Later in the afternoon, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) entrusted the investigation to its arson section. A 43-year-old woman was arrested not far from the scene of the disaster and will be met to find out about her involvement, said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.
A 33-year-old man, found unconscious, was transported to a hospital center where he is in critical but stable condition. Another victim, a 56-year-old man, is out of danger.
The fire was brought under control by firefighters shortly before 2 p.m., but the fire, smoke and water caused extensive damage in this residential and commercial sector.
