Still completely unknown just a few years ago, endometriosis has managed to get people talking about it today. No doubt thanks to the many celebrities with this disease. Awareness campaigns, television or media reports, rants on social networks, books filled with frankness… Many are the warriors who try to make this disease accepted. And this Friday, February 11, 2022, the latter can count on the support of medicine. Indeed, researchers have developed a saliva test to diagnose endometriosis early and be able to fight it.
What is endometriosis?
To explain it, the Endofrance association has chosen simple words: “the presence outside the uterine cavity of tissue similar to the uterine mucosa (the endometrium) which will undergo, during each subsequent menstrual cycle, the influence of hormonal changes”. This disease now affects 10% of women of childbearing age in France. In addition to infertility, this disease can cause several painful and disabling symptoms on a daily basis: pelvic pain, digestive and urinary disorders, dyspareunia, chronic fatigue.
Added to their pain, a fight of 8 to 12 years of medical wandering to diagnose this very complex disease and unknown to health professionals. So this new test, this world first, could change everything.
