Weidemann had quite a performance. After winning the bronze medal in the 3000m a few days ago, we had high expectations for the Ontarian who is first in the world rankings in the 5000m.
The 26-year-old skated well in the final. She was skating with Norway’s Ragne Wiklund, but the Canadian beat her by more than eight seconds. She was thus assured of a second medal.
All that remained was to see the performances of Francesca Lollobrigida and Iren Schouten.
It was ultimately Schouten who won the gold by breaking the Olympic record, as she had done in the 3000m.
