For years, we have been told the rules of a balanced diet. For the first time, a study measures its real impact.
A healthy mind in a healthy body thanks to a healthy plate. The researchers imagined an optimal diet: fruits and vegetables to which we add 200 grams of legumes per day, lentils for example. Above all, we opt for a diet low in meat, even if the best thing would still be to banish it from our diet. More concretely, if a 20-year-old American follows this diet, “its life expectancy increases by ten years on average“, explains the journalist Léo Marron.
But we are still a long way off. “In France, nearly 72% of adults do not eat the five fruits and vegetables which are nevertheless recommended per day“. However, there is no need to beat yourself up because the researchers have also calculated the benefits of what they call the intermediate effects (reducing meat, increasing your consumption of vegetables, etc.); and these small gestures increase life expectancy by 7% , regardless of the age of the person who rebalances their diet. On the other hand, this study should be qualified because the UN points out that in the world, 3 billion people do not have access to balanced food.
