Eastern REM | Quebec ready to add hundreds of millions

(Quebec) The Legault government is ready to add hundreds of millions, at the request of the City of Montreal, for the development of the REM de l’Est.

The bill for the urban integration of this controversial project is estimated at one billion dollars by the City and Mayor Valérie Plante has already pledged to contribute around 500 million.

In a press scrum on Wednesday morning, the Minister for Transport, Chantal Rouleau, suggested that the CAQ government was open to negotiation for part of the development costs.

The controversial electric train project to the east of the metropolis led by the Caisse de depot is floundering and a devastating report from the Regional Metropolitan Transport Authority (ARTM) recently questioned its feasibility.
