In the heart of the Cévennes (Gard), the village of Gagnières was not so long ago what is called a medical desert. The small village managed to seduce a doctor and the good news quickly spread.
The village of Gagnières (Gard) has less than 1,200 inhabitants, but it is fighting for its survival. When the doctor left three years ago, most businesses had already closed. The Post Office also began to be threatened. It was at this time that the idea germinated in the town hall: the former presbytery, bought by the municipality, was going to be able to become a real place to live. This will include the doctor’s office, not yet completely finished when it opened, but we had to act very quickly before the doctor changed his mind.
It is occupied by Dr. Benoit Debeire, who arrives from Hauts-de-France. After 20 years of replacement all over France, he wanted to settle down and have his patients. There are more than 400 patients pre-registered in Gagnieres. In the building, an apartment still needs to be fitted out for the doctor, it was an argument to convince him. A brand new service area will open in September: post office, library and doctor. An investment of 250,000 euros for the town, but the mayor is convinced he made the right bet.
